Repairs to NHS wheelchairs
It is our responsibility to ensure that wheelchairs are repaired and fit for purpose however there is a requirement for wheelchair users to carry out regular checks on their wheelchair and notify our repair service of any maintenance that is needed.
Users should be given a contact number for the approved repairer (A/R) service at the handover of equipment, or the repairer information may be on your last appointment letter. If you contact your A/R they can complete repairs to NHS wheelchairs for free. If the problem cannot be repaired they will escalate the issue with the Wheelchair Service.

Seating repairs
If there are issues with cushions and seating of a non-standard nature then the repair service may not be qualified to adjust or repair this equipment since there is a certain level of clinical knowledge needed to properly adjust some parts of a wheelchair or seating system. In these instances the repair service will contact the wheelchair service. Alternatively the wheelchair user can contact the wheelchair service directly and raise the issue with the local clinical team who can decide on the best way to resolve the issue.
