Making a difference for our patients

The Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Charity (or BCHC Charity) is an official NHS charity registered with the Charity Commission under the Registered Charity Number 1069427 to raise and receive legacies and donations for Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Charitable funds are a way of providing ‘extras’ not funded as part of core NHS services.

These are the things that will bring a smile to patients to enhance their experience or improve their care with us, such as a piece of equipment, research project or training course that will improve the care staff can provide. These initiatives can range from small items like books, toys, and toiletries all the way up to large projects such as our therapeutic playground for children with lower limb prosthesis at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre. Thanks to our star supporters, we’ve been able to renovate garden areas across our services, fund beautiful murals at BCHC bases throughout Birmingham, provide sensory lighting spaces for patients with learning disabilities, entertain patients with music, magic, and days out, and loads more!

Our mission is to make a real difference for our patients, their families and the staff who treat them.

Did you know we…

  • provide bereavement support items such as memory boxes and bereavement books?
  • support dementia-friendly initiatives such as activity stations, large print date and time clocks, and dementia dolls for therapeutic use?
  • run an Arts in Health scheme to help reduce anxiety and improve morale for patients and staff alike?
  • have updated staff rooms, enhanced outdoor spaces, and refurbished the Dandelion Room bereavement suite to help provide patients, visitors, and colleagues with peaceful, practical spaces to relax and reflect?
  • Promote healthy living by funding early intervention projects such as extra automated electronic defibrillators (AEDs) at BCHC clinics, falls prevention informational videos and resources, or events like the Diabetes & Me livestream?

Get Involved

There are lots of ways to help support BCHC Charity, such as our weekly lottery, or our programme of events such as skydives, the annual Bookworm Challenge, or Snowdon climbs! We are always looking for people to help us raise money by hosting their own fantastic fundraisers, such as cycling, running, baking, or dressing up. You could also sign up to EasyFundraising to raise money whilst you shop; at no extra cost to you! Get in touch to find out more about our lottery, events, or to tell us your fundraising ideas.
